^Lot 2033 JACK LOTT CUSTOM MADE DANGEROUS GAME BOLT ACTION

RIFLE FOR G&A EDITOR HOWARD FRENCH (CONSIGNOR STATES). Cal. 458 Win Mag. S# 5952n. Jack Lott was trained as a machinist and worked for Pachmayr in the 60's. He was also a gun writer with articles in "Guns & Ammo" and had years of experience in African hunting. He developed the highly regarded 458 Lott cartridge in the early 60's. This rifle, probably made in the late 50's, in 458 Win Mag has 24" lightweight sporter barrel engraved "J.P. LOTT -MAKER-LOS ANGELES" on top. Barrel is fitted with sleeved on island base holding one standing, two folding leaf express rear sight, banded on sling eye, and banded on short front ramp with flip-over sight protector holding white bead. Model 98 large ring Mauser action with receiver ring marked "WAFFENFABRIK" "MAUSER A:C" "OBERNDORF a/n" "1917" sourced from a military rifle has been slightly reshaped with rounded side wall. "QD" scope bases are soldered to bridge and rear of barrel. Bolt has had new low handle added with checkered pear shaped knob. Bolt shroud has M-70 type safety installed. Trigger is altered to single pull. Bottom metal has had trigger guard bow reshaped and tip of floorplate checkered. Stock made of lightly fiddle figured dense American walnut shows classic design and measures 14" over dark red "Old English" pad. Stock features shadow line cheekpiece, sunburst horn grip cap, ebony forend tip and well shaped chamfers on either side of action at center in Rigby style. Point pattern checkering is at grip and forend. Rifle is mounted with unmarked 2.5X scope with duplex reticle in unknown, possibly custom "QD" rings. Consignor's notes indicate rifle was made for Howard French editor of "Guns & Ammo" magazine. CONDITION: very good to fine. Metal retaining most of its original custom blue. Stock retains most of its original oil finish with some minor marks and dents. Bore is bright and shiny. Mechanically good. Scope is fine; optically clear. PROVENANCE: From the Buckstix Collection.
